Common Billing App Specific Questions
Q: Should I wait till after the merchant account is setup before I purchase the app?
A: It is to your advantage to purchase the app prior to setup as one can familiarlize and perform all application functions in demo mode. This enables faster learning curve and understanding of all key functions.
Q: How do I find my Authorize.net API login and transaction key?
A: This is sometimes mixed up with the standard Authorize.net account login. The API Login ID comes from your Authorize.Net account. To find it:
- Log into the Merchant Interface at https://secure.authorize.net
- Select Settings under Account in the main menu on the left
- Click API Login ID and Transaction Key in the Security Settings section
- Find the API Login ID
To obtain a Transaction Key:
- Log into the Merchant Interface at https://secure.authorize.net
- Select Settings under Account in the main menu on the left
- Click API Login ID and Transaction Key in the Security Settings section
- Enter the secret answer to the secret question you configured when you activated your user account
- Click Submit
The Transaction Key for your account is displayed on a confirmation page.
Q: Can I use my current merchant account and my current Authorize.net account in order to process payments on the iphone via Billing App without the need to setup a new merchant account or Authorize.net account?
A: Yes, you do not need to setup any new accounts unless you wish to do so. In most cases if you send us your last months statement we can beat or match your current rates so this may in fact reduce your current monthly fees.
Q: I am new to all this and hve never accepted credit cards before. Can you explain the entire requirement process so I can clearly understand the fees and terms and all in between?
A: Certainly, this is a very common question so here is the full break down:
- US Business (as in a corp or inc or llc) - Depends what state you are in for example if you are in Florida - The state has an online business filing website where you can easily open your corp. You can do this here: https://efile.sunbiz.org/ficregintro.html (there is a fee associated with this by the State and each state will have its own process online or not)
- US Bank account - You will need a US based business bank account - these are usually free with any major bank. In order to open one you need a Business name already registered with your state and a Tax ID number or EIN (Employee Identification number) you get this for free after you have your business name setup here: https://sa2.www4.irs.gov/modiein/individual/index.jsp
- Merchant Account - A merchant account is what enabled you to process payments and this service requires a contract between you and the merchant service provider. In our particular case we offer merchant accounts provided by Blackstone. Here are the basic fee structures associated with this merchant account:
- No setup Cost
- Monthly fee: $25
- No Monthly minimum
- Transaction fee per transaction: 15¢
- Interchage Rates varies mandated by Visa and Mastercard 2.4% - 3.4% per transaction (Visa and Mastercard bill for these as part of the merchant processing fees)
- 3 year Term - Early Termination fee applies (may be waived contact us for details)
- Gateway - Authorize.net is the most popular and widely used gateway in the US. This is the service that allows internet based transactions to pass through your merchant account. This is a separate service and contract between you and Authorize.net. We are preferred resellers for this gateway and as such provide complete signup as well. These are the associated fees with this:
- No Setup Cost
- Monthly Fee: $15
- No Monthly minimum
- Transaction fee per transaction: 15¢
- iPhone or iPod Touch - In order to accept payments wirelessly and without the need for expensive wireless terminals the iphone and ipod touch now have various credit card terminal apps available to easily process payments using your Authorize.net account.
